  2. This video just show's you how short life can be on anyone and their family the man had got arested 3 time for drugs and got 25 to life but people that kill people or other crimes get less that wasnt right they did him dirty and sent him away for a reason and no reason cthe reason is because less drugs and no reason he couldnt see his kid grow up and other people get more time than other that really need to be sent away

  3. I didn't know that someone could get three strikes on such minor offenses. I couldn't believe they gave him 25 yrs to life for having $5 worth of weed on him. It was sad to listen to the effect it had on his family, especially his daughter. I think three strikes policy shouldn't exist if it puts people in jail for such a long time for little crimes. especially when real criminals always get off easy or get less time than 25 yrs . I could only imagine how many more people have been hurt or put away for along time due to the three strikes policy.

  4. I feel very sorry for the little girl that has to go jail and see her father in prison. Inmate that stay for a period of time turn insane from beleaving in there for so long. the three strikes I agree on because once you get lock up i think you should think to your self and ask your self if you really want to be in there.

  5. The video shows how unfair the syten can be the daughter had a point when she said there are people in this world who stab people and murder people and rape people Nd they dont get 25 to life but her dad does on such a minor offense instantly ruins his life when there couldve been other choices . It shows how even with something so minor cops want to pin you on that crime

  6. I think that this video is very eye opening to the bad aspects of the three strike rule. This man has tried and succeeded in robbing homes in the past, before his last strike. When he is sentenced to 25-life in prison for little more than carrying $5 worth of marijuana, I thought it was absolutely absurd. The man is a drug addict and needs medical and professional assistance in overcoming his addiction, not exposure to a hostile prison environment and even more illegal substances. The entire three strike system is very flawed in this respect. -Michelle Rodriguez

    1. I agree. He needs rehabilitation not incarceration.

  7. This Video Is Sad , This Proves My Thoery That The System Is Designed For People To Fail , I Understand Having Three Strikes But 25 To Life For $5 Worth Of Drugs Is Ridiculous , & Prison Is Not Gonna Help Him Get Better Just Going To Tear Him & His Family Down , The Three Strike System May Work For People Who Have Serious Dangerous Criminal Offenses Not $5 Worth Of Drugs . -.-

  8. The video opens up a lot of questions to the three strikes policy. In my mind I'm thinking you get three strikes you're out that is true but I think the Offenses that make of the three strikes should be at least equivalent to 25 to life when receiving Third strike.I agree with Shane's daughter when she says "how are you gonna give somebody who doesn't have a single violent crime 25 to life"

  9. I think this video is sad because of the effect of his family when they cant be with him because hes in jail. i dont think that the three strike system should be designed for worse crimes not something so minor like 5$worth oh drugs.

  10. This video is very emotional it was ridiculous for that man to go to jail for these minor things i believe that the three strike system should be designed for worse crimes because now this little girl has to grow up without a father because her father made a couple of minor offenses. your having harmless people take up jail cells that are meant for serious offenders.

  11. I feel like this documentary is really sad and heart touching . I feel that Shane's family should try and fright for Shane's rights because I totally disagree with the whole California Three strikes rule ! But then again Shane did have a hard life .

  12. This video showed how the three strike is messed up in the sense that if you get 3 strikes for little thing like trespassing or being caught with a little amount of drugs , then you go to jail or prison for a long time , longer then people who've committed crimes like manslaughter and attempted murder have gotten . Its messed up and they should get rid of the three strike rule .

  14. After wathcing this video I think that Shane shouldn't have went to jail for so long because the crimes he committed were not that serious. Also he didnt desreve to go to jail for 25 years becasude there are other people making more serious crimes. These should be the people going to jail for a long period of time. Their crimes are more serious and harmful to others. So puttin them in jail for a long time would keep people safe.

  15. After watching the video i think that the three strike policy is messed up, but it's the way of life. I think that the three strike policy is necessary because if they don't put that rule out , then people will keep on doing bad things.

  16. This documentary was very emotional. Its sad to know that Shane had to go to prison for 25 years of his life. He left a family behind who had to deal with the fact of him being in jail which was a big effect on them, mostly on his daughter. Its surprising to know that if you get three strikes for a little thing you did you get such a long time in prison, comparing to other dangerous crimes most people commit like raping someone, 2nd degree murder etc.

  17. I felt this ruling was unfair. Although, it did follow the protocol of "three strikes". I believe this is one case that deserved further analyzing before sentencing him to 25 years to life, for minor offenses. Like his daughter said, there are criminals who commit far worst acts than he did and their sentences are shorter than his. Yes, a crime is a crime. But not all crimes are the same, and this case needs to be re-opened and justified. -Kirsten Mckoy.

  18. After watching this video this obviously clearifys that the three strike rule shouldnt be applied to certain charges it should fit specific crimes and offenses to the correct curcumstance of pubishment.he committed minor offenses and was given an unreasonable amount of jail time instead of being given a rehabilitation treatment option. Which was most likelt needed jail time can potentially make it worst

  19. this video showed how the three strikes law shouldn't be apply to nonviolent crimes more than 4,000 inmate are in jail serving life sentences I thing the government is choice the law there strick on some law and that not right!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. After watching this video it shows the how the law system works, he shouldn't have gotten life in prison over 5$ worth of drugs. By the judge apologizing isn't going to prove anything or show any changes. Minor offenses like that should be dealt way more better than that case

    ReplyDelete
  21. I feel that this documentary showed how unfair the three strikes law is especially on the fact that shane didnt have a violent record.

    ReplyDelete
  22. saja burt, after watching the video i feeel that the three strike rule should be used only for certain situation. Sghane had a clear record so they shouldve took that into consideration. The case was unfair it shouldve beeen more analyed.

  23. After watching this video i now understand how unfair the three strike law. Sending Shane 25 to life is just plain wrong. There are other inmates that should get the amount of time that Shane was sentenced to.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think the three strikes law is not fair to the nonviolent offenders and their families. As Shane's daughter points out, there are people who have committed more heinous crimes than carrying $5 worth of methamphetamine. This law ruins lives more than it saves them.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I never knew it was a such thing called 3 strikes for cops. Even if its 3 small things. I don't think he should have gone to jail for 25 years for $5 worth of weed and he has a daughter and family. Shane didn't have a violent record neither so the 3 strike rule shouldn't count for each crime only certain crimes. His daughter was right there are criminals who did a violent crime and has a shorter period. Shane has 25 years to life, this court case should have been investigated more. This documentary was sad and unbelievable.

    ReplyDelete
  26. What i feel about this video is that it shows how unfair this law is. It doesnt seem fair for him to get 25 years to life for something as small as that while others get out before him for more serious and violent crimes.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I just recently found out about this three strike rule. It isn't right to send him to jail for so long over something so small. In this case it wasn't fair he didn't have a violent record and thats another child in the world that had to grow up without a father figure.People that have probably done more than this and have less time then twenty five years. - Mahogany Bogle

  28. From my past work in previous years and my recent posting on the blog, it's no secret I'm a malcontent of the U.S.A. government. This video only furthers my sentiments against the Obama administration. The United States is the only country in the entire world that spends more on war and prisoners than on more crucial matters, like education. How can we be the greatest country in the world, when we spend more money on prisoners, warfare with Musulmans over petroleum, etc. rather than education, which is supposed to be the ultimate investment for one's future?

California's a state that's going one step forward and two steps backward. Three strikes is good for deterring violent crime, and putting violent inmates where they truly belong. Yet at the same time, this applies that sort of warped logic to nonviolent offenders. Now, nonviolent offenders =! innocent, but they should at least be given a sentence actually worthy of their crime. In Shane's case, just 200 hours worth of community service would've sufficed (although the question still remains as to why he even had crank on him).

  29. The fact that Shane has 25 to life just because of drugs bothers me. It's not like he tried to kill someone for the drugs he made some mistakes but never got violent. Now he's suffering along with his family that miss him so much.

    ReplyDelete
  30. After watching this video, i feel like Three strikes is way out of line. The case was unfair. Some of these prisoners should be released. People should re-think the 3 strikes there out law. Also, the three strike rules should be used in different situations. In my opinion, i also feel like he should have not went to jail for 25 years for $5 worth of weed. Besides, he has a daughter and family. Shane didn't have a violent record neither.

  31. This three strikes rule needs to go. Messing up 3 times for little mistaminors should not give up 25 years to life in jail. It's unfair. And murderers and rapist are running free

    ReplyDelete
  32. This video shows that the system has no sympathy. Three strikes and that's it you're done. I think they didn't have to give him 25 to life considering his non criminal past. I don't think 5 dollars worth of drugs should have even been enough to arrest him , let alone count as a third strike. At the same time he received two strikes for the same thing, he should have got his stuff together after the first strike. I do feel bad for his daughter that her father is in prison. The three strike rule should have some regulations.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I disagree with the Three Strikes law because it is unfair. Shane should not have been sentenced to 25 years in prison for drugs only. Like his daughter said, people who have done rape & manslaughter don't even get that long and it's a messed up system. The fact that he had under 20$ of methamphetamine furthers the point that just one small mistake in the Third Strike law and you can go to prison for a long while. People like Shane shouldn't be put into prison for that long. They should be putting people who actually deserve serving all that time. - Carolyne Sanchez

  34. The three strikes law put away a man that never commited anything violent, and according to him he never will. I agree and disagree with the three strikes law

    ReplyDelete
  35. The three strikes law should only apply to those who commit serious crimes not something so minor like $5 worth of drugs.... Really tThey just tore apart that mans life & family, the system is soo corrupt for lettin stuff like this happen b/c they're are people who should really b behind bars who have committed haneous crimes and don't get 25 to life. Horrible.

  36. I agree with thr ban of soda because if we get rid of it everyone will be healthy and it would be less health problems. The government shouldn't decide what we should and shouldn't eat because that's our decision to make. If we get rid of it the less health problems to deal with it because soda does make you unhealthy.

  37. three strike law should only go to those who have done crimes like killing. stealing or selling drugs shouldnt have a huge sentence in prison. its unfair. its not like your taking a nother persons life stealing.

    ReplyDelete
  38. The three strike law is outrageous in one way but also good in another way. The thing they should do is make it only for violent criminals such as murderers, rapist, molesters, and just anything that's violent. The three strike law should not be for people who are drug addicts or even the drug dealers. They didn't take somebody's life or rape someone, they got caught with drugs because they're mentally and physically addicted to it. The drug dealers also, although they're supplying the drugs they're making the drug addicts less violent because there drug fix is there whenever they need it. Its horrible to see a man who never was violent be out in prison.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The Three Strikes law is stupid. Why put a man who has never committed a violent crime to 25 years to life in jail? His third strike was for $5 worth of drugs. Now he missed out on his daughter and wife's life because of that. They need to change that

    ReplyDelete
  40. The three strike law is stupid because it doesn't make sense for someone who didn't do a violent crime to be in prison for the rest of his life. Also due to the fact that he didn't do anything violent the police should have gave him a lighter sentence then for the rest of his life.

    ReplyDelete
  41. The three strikes are very petty because people that are put in jail and comes out cant get a steady job to live on so they will be force to do the same thing that landed them in jail in the first place. 5$ worth of drugs is just to petty just send him to a drug program

    ReplyDelete
  42. this video shows how life is more than short. i feel like the system is upside down because a person can do one thing and end up in jail for a life time. But a person who committ's murder sell drug and etc gets away so easly i feel like thats wrong. thats another reason why serious killers come out of jail and continue to keep on doing the same thing because they know the simple fact is they can get out as easly as they get in. this all shows how the system does not really show they actually look into what they are doing. also this really hurts people because many people go threw things like this everyday, its very emotional when you have to grow up with a loved one locked up for being innocent while a crimminal walks free.

  43. khalil Lightbourne- i feel like the system is corrupt and it always will be. and i agree with the guys daughter and wife. the judge doesnt think how the familys or inmates will b affected. And its not fair that hes getting 25-life for non violent crimes. but when people kill and other extreme cases they dont get that long...

    ReplyDelete
  44. I feel like the system is corrupt . agree with the guys daughter and his wife. what the judge did ours wrong how do u put a man in jail for 25 years for a non-violent crime is just not fair

    ReplyDelete
  45. the system is very unfair someone shouldnt be sentenced 25 to life for 5 bucks worth of meth just because of the dumb three strike rule in cali

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hi This Is Fernando Lainez. I think that the three strike rule is an unfair system and and i think its unfair for the persons family. the guy was addicted to the drug but he never committed a crime and he got 25 years worth in jail and its totally unfair for him and his family.

  47. I think the system is very unfair because I don't understand how there is so much crimes nd death happening and people who should be behind bars but yet they want to pick on someone who didn't committ a crime .
